The Big Island

Here are just a few pictures from our trip to the Big Island....we took a lot. There was lots to see! We stayed at the Kileuea Military Camp, which was right in the Hawaii Volcano National Park. So, we saw lava, went to the top of Mauna Kea, drove by lots of old lava (drove a lot period!) and saw as much as we could in a few days. More pictures to come!

Steam from the Kileuea caldera...they say the lava is now 100 meters under the surface...something's coming....

The caldera floor, we hiked down there..(don't worry, it's huge!)

The steam from the caldera floor

Ginger -- apparently in the national park its a nuisance and is constantly trying to be eradicated. Its similar to, but not the ginger in the store

Windmills on the south shore

Farmland on the south shore...we even saw cows & horses!

Lava going into the ocean

More lava...it was so neat to see!

The crowd oooing and aahing...you can see approx. how far away we were
