White Plains

Recently we went to hang out at White Plains Beach instead of the lagoons -- they get so crowded on the weekends. I bet you're thinking oh boy -- more sand and water pictures!! I'd hate to disappoint you....and there! we're finally all caught up on pictures...whew

U.S.S. Bowfin

A few weekends ago we went down to Pearl Harbor to check out the U.S.S. Bowfin -- the submarine that's down there.

Good thing Scott flies helicopters and isn't on something like this!

Imagine sleeping in one of these

Going down

Watch out!

Other submarine's that went down

Bellows: 3 Us: 1

This morning we packed up the car and took a drive up to the H3 and over to the Air Force Beach -- Bellows Beach to log a few hours at the ocean. Although we're only a mile or so away from the beach from where we live its absolutely packed on the weekends with locals and vacationers alike. Bellows is only open to the public on the weekends, but we didn't have a hard time finding a place to call our own for a few hours. Its one of my favorite beaches -- so pretty and a good place to take the kayak for some ocean surfing.

Looks nice, doesn't it? Looks nice. We had a fun time, how could we not? However, we came away with a bit more than we expected. Nothing major -- just a few bumps/bruises for me and Scott has some nice bruising/slight scrapes around his right eye from contact with the ocean floor (which came from using the boogie board, not the kayak). We're not surprised to tip over in the kayak, its happened before and it'll happen again. Today, every time we paddled in we ended up getting sideways and rolled. We were close on the last time, so close but couldn't quite make it all the way to shore. Ah well, maybe next time. And, I just have to say, 4 foot waves look a lot scarier when you're looking up at them. So, Bellows may have won, but we get some credit for fun.

As we entered the gate today we saw the train pass by. It only runs on Sundays and sometimes we hear it, but we've never seen it. Not quite like the ones at home, yeah?

P.S. If Scott says I wacked him with the paddle don't believe him; it really was the ocean, not me :-)

Annoucements, Announcements, Announcements....

Some information we'd like to share......

We found out this week that we will be leaving the island by Feburary of next year (2009). Although we're sad at the news b/c we are settled in here and hey its a pretty nice place to be, we know that this is an opportunity to go someplace we've not yet been and maybe be closer to home. Right now its up in the air as to where we'll be and we don't know when we'll have orders. Scott has requested savannah, kentucky, or kansas -- most of those places will be returning from deployment. But, as we know, nothing is for sure and things change pretty quick. So, cross your fingers for us!!
