Ha Ha

I said bring on the rain yesterday and I think it worked. It started to rain around lunchtime and is still going strong. A good thing though -- the island hasn't gotten much rain in awhile and needs it. So, yay rain!

Rainbows and Rain

This week has been an eventful one. Scott's off in the middle of California somewhere "spending tax payer dollars playing army" and kids started back to school on Wednesday. Melisa and I have been busy rearranging/organizing furniture, materials and all the paperwork that's required for testing/seeing kiddos pre-k-5th grade. And did I mention that there are on-going renovations? They started over the summer by painting the school purple...yes, purple! A color I haven't seen before on a school. Well, you can't miss it!

Despite the long week (felt like Monday was a looooong time ago), I was reminded of where we live on several occasions. Earlier this week I saw rainbows driving to and from work -- full rainbows and even one double rainbow. I always see the ocean when driving home in the afternoons down one particular road and today you could see rain pouring down over the ocean, but not on land. I think words and even pictures don't describe how beautiful it is here. Every time I walk out the door at work I can look and see the mountains. We're a bit spoiled; glad for experience and glad we're not here permanently. There are some things we won't miss by far (ahem: ants). However, we'll try to enjoy it while we're here.

As an aside we still don't know where we're going or when. We're lucky Scott didn't file for a year extension; they would've sent him up to division to deploy in October. They've been pushing people around our original date to leave (feb.) to leave early so we've put paperwork in to that effect so we might have a little more control about when we leave. Its been a sticky situation; they are "overstrengthed" across the board for Chinook pilots and there's definitely been drama and some stressful conversations. Life isn't all fun and games here and there are several different possible outcomes. If nothing else we are learning flexibility and the benefits of having less "stuff" to move ;-)

Rainbows, Rain and Orders (in writing please): bring it on!

Have a good weekend!

Its waaaaay to early!

Scott's headed off to NTC this morning -- a day early than originally planned but no biggie....he's just leaving waaaaay earlier in the morning than either of us would like. He has to be there at 3, yes 3. So, here we are at 2:15 getting ready to go. I'm definitely headed back to bed before getting up for work a little later. Happy thursday!

Back to School

The first day for kids is coming up this wednesday, though teachers & staff have been back for a few days already. In honor of the upcoming school year, I thought I'd post this cartoon. A little hard to read, but funny I think .... maybe more so for those SLPs out there. Surprisingly Melissa and I only have about 30 kids each, but we're expecting that number to go up, especially with the testing that's coming in -- being in a military school means that we get more than our fair share. We'll chalk it up to good experience though; along with scheduling 30+ kids in reg. ed, special ed inclusion/pull out and preschool. Let the fun begin! Have a good week everyone!

Friday Night Fun

Scott's mom has been hanging out with us this week before heading off to Denver. We've taken a lot of pictures (as usual!). Last night we went up to Paradise Cove to the lu'au. Unfortunately, my camera battery died after a little bit. These pictures are from his mom's camera. We got some tatoos, had some drinks, ate some pork and enjoyed the show!

Scott wouldn't get a tatoo, but we did!

Fishing demonstration -- throwing the net

The Hula before they dug up the pig

The show after dinner -- there was lots of dancing
a fire thrower and audience participation
(though not with the flame throwing)

The sitting hula

How we spent our summer vacation

We're settling back into work/life after being at home for a few weeks. Scott's mom is coming this weekend for a week and the week after that Scott leaves for NTC. School will be starting up again soon so I'll be back to going to work everyday. We had a lot of fun while we were back in good 'ole St.L and the next visit will hopefully be Christmas.

I've found another interesting way to show our pictures from the trip. Its an interesting site: check it out!
