Weeklong celebrations of American football ended with the Pro Bowl yesterday. Gates opened at 7 for parking, 9 for the stadium. People were up early, out in full force tailgating and expounding on their favorite team/player to anyone who'd listen. The game itself was a little....anticlimatic, but the energized atmosphere made up for it...there's nothing like the wave going around the stadium, a chinook fly over or watching the mascots. That said -- we still prefer live baseball games!

Sightings

We went out for our long run early evening after an exciting day of running errands, cleaning/organizing the garage and washing one of the cars. People involved in the Pro Bowl are staying at the Marriott up the street and we've seen evidence that they're here. There's more traffic than usual, limos are lined up on a side street (which Scott has seen coming in when he leaves for work...some people are having a late night) and part of our running route has been blocked off right in front of the hotel.

So, we get our run on and see a few people involved in the Pro Bowl -- they were wearing laynards with IDs/pro bowl logos. Not that we really knew who they were, but its entirely possible we saw some of the football players.

The real sighting of the day came in the middle of mile 6 (out of 8). The sun was setting and as it went under the horizon there it was: the green flash. We weren't the only ones -- some people applauded as we ran by one of the lagoons. So, its official: it exists. Current green flash sighting counts are: Becky: 3 Scott: 1

We completed the 8.1 mile run and are ready for the aloha run coming up in a week. Now, that we've done some work for today, its time to sit on the couch and recover.

Winter Weather

Winter means cold, snow, ice and hot chocolate (at least I think so) to a good portion of the mainland. Here its all about the rain, wind and surf/craft advisories, with some snow. Haleakala (on Maui) was covered in snow and the national park was closed for several days last week. This week, rain and flooding are a concern. Where we live (leeward side of Ohau) there's generally less rain, more sun and warmer temps than other parts of the island. So, we've had some rain, but mostly just clouds. Kaena Point

Sunday we took a drive up the Wainaie coast to Kaena Point to look for some whales. We never saw any, but here are some pictures from our adventure. The rest of the day consisted of an exciting trip to the commissary and working on our art project, of which we'll post some pictures -- we're almost complete with the new addition. Until then, have a good week!

Monoa Falls Hike

Last weekend we hiked the Manoa Falls trail. We were rained upon, bit by mosquitos, slipped around in the mud and navigated around rocks/tree roots to get to the waterfall. Despite being muddy and itchy, the relatively short hike was well worth it and there was lots to see.

We're back!

Well, we're back in Hawaii after a few weeks in St.L celebrating the holidays. After Scott got home from work yesterday afternoon we took the camera and my new tripod/polarizer to a small beach near the lagoons to have some fun. Below are only a few that we ended up with, its always hard to choose which ones to share...though in a place like this its not to hard to take some pretty pictures!
